US President Donald Trump, after a phone call with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested an unconditional 30-day ceasefire between Ukraine and russia. He warned that if the truce is broken, the US and its partners stand ready to impose new sanctions on moscow. Zelenskyy backed the idea, stressing he would negotiate only if russia fully halts fire. Ukrainian officials reported over 700 violations by russian forces in the first 12 hours of the Kremlin’s announced three-day ceasefire, including artillery and missile strikes that killed civilians and damaged infrastructure.

Germany Backs Ceasefire and Prepares Pressure on russia

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz saidthat Berlin, alongside the EU and US, is ready to ramp up pressure on russia if it refuses the proposed 30-day ceasefire. At a Brussels press conference, he affirmed full support for Ukraine and stressed that peace is possible only with Ukraine’s participation.

Merz also voiced support for the US initiative after his telephone call with Trump, noting that European solidarity on Ukraine remains strong and that EU defense capabilities must be bolstered—both to back Kyiv and enhance pan-European security.

США не дозволять росії претендувати на неокуповані українські території

US Vice President J.D. Vance saidthat russia demands too much in peace talks, including territory it does not control.

He emphasized that Washington wants to see Ukraine independent and intact, and that moscow’s territorial demands are unacceptable. Vance noted that russian commanders behave as if they are winning the war, but the reality is more complex. He welcomed the very existence of peace proposals but warned that if the Kremlin acts in bad faith, the US will walk away from negotiations.
