Mayor Brandon Johnson officially recognized the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America – Illinois Chapter (UCCA-IL) with a letter of appreciation for their outstanding community work and advocacy for the Ukrainian community in Chicago and Illinois. This honor indicates that the Ukrainian community's voice in the United States is being heard, and its contributions to American society are being recognized at the highest level.

"Your unwavering commitment to service and advocacy has provided critical support during times of crisis and strengthened our city. From establishing the Ukraine Relief Fund to providing assistance to those most in need to representing the Ukrainian community at the highest levels of government in Washington, D.C., your leadership has been both tireless and transformative," the mayor wrote.
The letter emphasizes that the UCCA Illinois Chapter has played a pivotal role in uniting Ukrainians and the Ukrainian-American community in support of Ukraine during the war. The organization has also promoted dialogue, friendship, and mutual respect between Chicago and Ukraine.
The organization was thanked specifically for establishing the Ukraine Assistance Fund, for its advocacy work at the U.S. federal government level, and for its contribution to the preservation and dissemination of Ukrainian cultural heritage.
"Your work has deepened the ties between the Ukrainian government and the city of Chicago. It has helped build bridges of diplomacy, friendship, and mutual respect that will serve both communities well into the future," Johnson said.
He emphasized the importance of humanitarian initiatives that support those seeking safety and a new life in Chicago and thanked Ukraine for its leadership, vision, and unwavering support.
