UCCA Urges Trump Administration to Impose New Wave of Sanctions Against Russia

The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) has called on the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to immediately implement a new comprehensive wave of sanctions against russia in response to its growing military escalation against Ukraine.

This was reported by Ukrainian Congress Committee of America.

According to UCCA, on March 11, 2025, Ukraine agreed to an unconditional ceasefire proposed by the U.S., but russia rejected the initiative and instead escalated its attacks. Over the past several weeks, russia has launched more than 1,200 drones, over 250 cruise and ballistic missiles, and over 1,000 air bombs against Ukraine, targeting civilian infrastructure, energy facilities, and humanitarian institutions.

UCCA emphasized that despite 17 rounds of sanctions imposed since 2022, russia continues to receive substantial revenue from energy exports—approximately €565 million per day as of May 2025. The organization noted that russia uses a "shadow fleet" of 1,100–1,400 tankers to evade sanctions.

Special attention was drawn to the russian defense industry’s circumvention of export restrictions, particularly through illegal shipments of Western components via Central Asia and the Persian Gulf.

The statement underscores the need to shift to systemic pressure, including the introduction of secondary sanctions on russian oil and gas, tighter export controls, inclusion of logistics hubs involved in dual-use goods shipments in sanctions lists, and the confiscation of nearly $300 billion in frozen russian assets to fund Ukraine’s defense and recovery.

The organization stressed that sanctions are an effective national security tool that can significantly undermine russia’s military capabilities without endangering American troops. Delays, they warned, could have negative consequences not only for Ukraine but for regional and global stability as well.

UCCA also noted that the majority of Americans support the current sanctions or favor their expansion. Therefore, the organization called on the U.S. Congress to adopt new, tougher sanctions legislation.
