The Shevchenko Scientific Society in the USA, together with the American Association for Ukrainian Studies and Razom for Ukraine, has announced the launch of a call for applications from young scholars. PhD students at U.S. universities and postdoctoral researchers who received their degree within the past three years are invited to apply. The workshop’s topics will cover a wide range of issues: civil society, culture, economic development, gender, historical memory, humanitarian aid, international relations, migration, and war.
This was reported by Shevchenko Scientific Society.
The interdisciplinary workshop will take place in New York City on October 31 – November 1, 2025. Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in events of the Ukrainian Cultural Festival. Scholars are required to submit in advance a paper of academic length, which will be discussed during the event. Senior researchers will provide comments on the submitted materials, and participants themselves are expected to familiarize themselves with their colleagues’ papers in order to foster active discussion.
Applications are open to PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and early career scholars in the humanities and social sciences currently working in the U.S. The application deadline is September 10, 2025. Each application should include an abstract of about 300 words and a short biographical statement of up to 200 words. Selected participants will receive confirmation on September 17.
Organizers will provide participants with grants to cover the cost of economy-class airfare and two nights in a hotel. Selected scholars will also receive priority consideration for a Razom for Ukraine grant to attend the annual ASEEES convention in Chicago, which will take place on November 12–15, 2026. Workshop papers will be considered for publication in a special issue of a peer-reviewed journal on Ukrainian studies.
