The Musical “Stars of Palatine” Presented in Palatine

At the Church of the Immaculate Conception in the city of Palatine, another Parish Prosphora took place — a traditional religious celebration that brings the church community together in prayer and mutual support. This year’s celebration in Palatine had a special distinction: a theatrical performance in the form of the musical “Stars of Palatine,” which became the central event of the festive day.

This was reported by Radio UA Chicago.

The festive Sunday morning began with the Divine Liturgy, celebrated by Father Mykhailo, Father Yaroslav, and Father Andrii. The church gathered parishioners, community guests, as well as Ukrainian soldiers who are currently undergoing treatment in the United States. Particularly touching were the words of Father Yaroslav Mendiuk about the value of family unity, gratitude for daily blessings, and the need to come together to help Ukraine — regardless of where we live.

The central highlight of this year’s celebration was the theatrical performance — the musical “Stars of Palatine,” presented by young members of the children’s acting group “Kinomaliatko” under the direction of director Oksana Svidruk and assistant director Sofia Delisandru. Children’s sincerity combined with acting skill, creating a vivid, emotional, and meaningful story on stage about reconciliation, unity, and the light of Christmas.

According to the plot of the musical, the Ukrainian festival “Chervona Ruta” is canceled in the city of Palatine, which becomes a painful event for the community. A sad girl named Ruta appears on stage, joined in her sorrow by volunteers, as the festival was not only a celebration but also an opportunity to raise funds for good causes benefiting Ukraine. The ban was caused by complaints from an angry neighbor who was disturbed by the music and festive noise.

A kind girl, Natalka, helps explain that “Chervona Ruta” is not disorder, but Ukrainian traditions, songs, and dances that the community preserves far from the homeland. Throughout the performance, the audience is shown the life of the Ukrainian community in Palatine: volunteer work, support for Ukraine, shared meals, and dance performances, including fitness hopak. Volunteers, soldiers, kings, angels, and the Holy Family appear on stage, portrayed by the young actors with great attention to character and meaning.

The climax of the story is reconciliation: the angry neighbor changes his attitude, agrees to the festival, and even joins in helping the Ukrainian community. The joyful final words, “The Christmas Star will shine in the sky, uniting us with faith in our hearts!” emphasized the main idea of the performance: Christmas is a time of unity and good deeds.

A touching continuation of the program was the performance by the children’s church choir “Anhelyky,” led by Mariia Kyrychenko. Pure children’s voices filled the hall with Christmas joy and created an atmosphere of spiritual presence.

The event concluded with a communal carol, “God Is Born”, uniting everyone present in a sincere prayer for love, peace in Ukraine, and hope.
