Music as a tool of struggle: Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra Held Its First Symphony Concert

The event, led by Canadian-Ukrainian conductor Carrie-Lynn Wilson, took place in Gdynia, Poland.

"The Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra continues its fight for Ukraine's freedom with revolutionary music created in response to oppression - from Victoria Polyova's Bucha Lacrimosa to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Glory to Ukraine", wrote Carrie-Lynn Wilson.

The Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra was founded in 2022 on the initiative of the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Bolshoi Theater in Warsaw. It is an orchestra of Ukrainian musicians who are members of European orchestras and instrumentalists who play in Ukrainian bands.

The idea came from conductor Wilson, who felt the need to help Ukrainian artists and believes that music can be a powerful tool in the struggle for peace and justice.
