Ukraine's flag raising ceremony takes place in Chicago

The flag was raised to the Ukrainian anthem by Ukrainian-American veterans who saluted Ukraine.

This was reported by Maria Klymchak, a representative of the Ukrainian community in the United States and director of programs at the Kyiv Mohyla Academy Foundation in America.

"We witnessed a historic event! As a sign of solidarity with Ukraine and Ukrainian Americans, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson proclaimed August as Ukraine Month in Chicago... This is a sign of respect for our community as the strongest ethnic entity in Illinois and the most active in the United States. Most importantly, Ukraine is on the agenda... for the first time, a whole month is dedicated to Ukraine in our beautiful city of Chicago!" Klymchak wrote.

In the proclamation, Chicago Mayor Johnson noted that Ukraine has become a symbol of freedom and democracy, and its citizens are fighting for their sovereignty.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, the mayor's office, clergy, Consul General of Ukraine in Chicago Sergiy Kolesov and numerous guests of the American metropolis. The event was accompanied by a concert of Ukrainian amateur artists and children's groups. The event was organized by the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America.

It is worth noting that Kyiv and Chicago have been twin cities since 1991.
