New York City will host the opening of the 21st September season of the Fall for Dance Festival. This prestigious U.S. festival will open on September 18 at the New York City Center with the ballet Elegy of Wartime by the National Ballet of Ukraine.

This was reported on the poster of the New York City Center.

The eight leading soloists of the theater's ballet company, Nikita Sukhorukov, Anastasia Shevchenko, Sergei Krivokon, Natalia Matsak, Yaroslav Tkachuk, Tatiana Lozova, Olga Golitsa, and Vladimir Kutuzov, will open this prestigious festival with the ballet Elegy of Wartime at the New York City Center.

“Elegy of Wartime” is a one-act ballet staged by the world-famous dancer and choreographer Oleksiy Ratmansky. The musical basis of the performance is the works of the prominent Ukrainian composer Valentyn Silvestrov and rural music of the 1930s.

“This work of the choreographer, in organic combination with the soulful postludes for piano and string orchestra and gem-like samples of traditional folk music, is a tribute to resilience and strength, joy, and hope for a peaceful, happy future. The perfect portrayal of the characters is enhanced by Wendall K. Harrington's stage design, which features the work of Matthew Weisberg and Maria Primachenko. At the first performance in Seattle on September 26, 2022, at the Pacific Northwest Ballet Theater, Ratmansky unfurled the Ukrainian flag in front of the curtain before the performance. The audience stood up and gave a standing ovation with tears in their eyes,” the National Opera of Ukraine's website says.

These will be the sixth and seventh performances of Elegy for Wartime to take place in the United States during the Fall for Dance Festival.

To remind you, that in October, the ballet company has been invited to a major tour with a concert program in major U.S. cities. During the premiere tour of the United States, from October 8 to 29, the National Ballet of Ukraine will perform in 16 cities. The tour will also feature a special guest, the renowned Ukrainian-Canadian folk ensemble Shumka. The tour schedule for October link
