Ukraine will receive an additional $700 million from the United States to support and energy networks destroyed by Russian attacks, and for humanitarian needs. Specifically, $325 million to strengthen Ukraine's energy sector, $290 million for humanitarian needs, and $102 million for humanitarian demining.
This was said by U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during a joint press conference in Kyiv with the foreign ministers of Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
Blinken stressed that Russia will again try to attack Ukraine's energy sector and use cold as a weapon against the population.
"That's why today we are announcing $325 million in new funding to rebuild Ukraine's energy and power grids", he said.
He also announced a meeting of the Group of Seven Plus dedicated to assisting Ukraine's energy sector.
Blinken also noted that the United States will provide $290 million in humanitarian assistance to Ukraine to provide basic services. This includes providing drinking water, food, and medicine to millions of Ukrainians in the country who have been forced to leave their homes due to the war.
"We are announcing an additional $102 million in humanitarian demining assistance to help remove landmines and munitions left behind by Russia throughout Ukraine", Blinken added.
