Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said in an interview that if she is elected president, she will not meet with Vladimir Putin for peace talks if Ukraine is not represented at them.
This was reported in an interview with CBS.
"Not on a bilateral level. Not without Ukraine. Without Ukraine, there can be no Ukraine", Harris said in response to a question on 60 Minutes about the possibility of a one-on-one meeting with the Russian leader to discuss ending the war.
The vice president added that the United States now supports Ukraine's ability to defend itself against unprovoked Russian aggression. President Joe Biden's administration has also previously rejected the possibility of negotiating with Putin without Ukraine.
Harris also criticized her opponent in the election, Donald Trump, saying his policies would lead Ukraine to "surrender" to Russia.
"Donald Trump, if he were president, Putin would be sitting in Kyiv right now. He says he can end it on the first day. Do you know what this is about? It's capitulation", she said.
In addition, Harris said she was prepared to consider Ukraine's application for NATO membership "if it gets to that point."
