A unique culinary competition, “Borshch Battle: Borshch-Off for Ukraine 2024,” took place at Pudler's Hall in Wisconsin, gathering under one roof enthusiasts of Ukrainian cuisine, supporters, and regular fans of traditional Ukrainian borshch. The event, organized by Luella Dooley-Menet, drew numerous participants and spectators who came not only to taste the finest variations of the iconic Ukrainian dish but also to support an important mission – raising funds for Ukrainians affected by the war.
This was reported by the Wisconsin Ukrainians Inc.
“Yesterday, we held a wonderful event, ‘Borshch Battle: Borshch-Off for Ukraine 2024,’ organized by Luella Dooley-Menet, and raised funds to help Ukraine. We thank all participants who shared their unique recipes and supported our cause!” shared the organizers.

Contestants had the opportunity to compete for the title of the year’s best borshch, bringing their unique recipes in unmarked pots. Each borshch had its own distinct flavor – some experimented with ingredients, while others adhered to the classic recipe. For a symbolic $10, attendees could sample the dishes, vote for their favorites, and make additional donations to support the cause.
In addition to borshch, visitors enjoyed Ukrainian pastries, souvenirs, and a warm atmosphere filled with support and unity.

Through the Borshch-Off event, Wisconsin Ukrainians Inc. successfully raised significant donations that will go toward humanitarian aid for people in Ukraine, including food, medicine, and essential supplies. This year, the organizers aimed to surpass last year’s sum of $1,300.
The event concluded with the announcement of the winner, who received a traveling trophy and “eternal bragging rights for making the best borshch of 2024.”
