More than a thousand people gathered in downtown Chicago for a massive rally dedicated to the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. Participants not only expressed support for the Ukrainian people, but also criticized Donald Trump's policies.
This was reported by Ukrainian People Magazine.
Despite the freezing weather, families came to the rally with children, parents, Ukrainian flags and placards. Near the Wrigley Building, Democratic Congressman from Illinois Mark Quigley, former Chicago Mayor Laurie Lightfoot, Consul General of Ukraine in Chicago Sergiy Kolesov, head of the local chapter of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America Ihor Dyachun, as well as representatives of other diasporas and NGOs addressed the community. They called on the United States and the international community to take decisive action in support of Ukraine and to condemn Russian aggression.
The demonstrators held placards reading "Russia is a terrorist state," "Putin is a murderer," "Return Ukraine's stolen children," "Ukraine is not for sale," and "Russism kills. The event was attended by Ukrainian soldiers undergoing rehabilitation in the United States with the support of the Protez Foundation.
The rally was accompanied by Ukrainian patriotic songs and blue and yellow flags lining the streets. A huge cloth of the national flag was unfurled along Michigan Avenue, and motorists honked their horns in support.
