Honored by the U.S. Congress: UCCA President Maria Dmytryv-Kapeniak recognized as one of Illinois' leading community leaders

The Ukrainian community in Illinois has reason to be proud: President of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America Illinois (UCCA IL) Maria Dmytriv-Kapeniak received a special recognition from Congresswoman Delia Ramirez - the Award of Recognition.

This was reported by Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Illinois Division.

On March 25, Congresswoman Ramirez delivered a speech in honor of Dmytryk-Kapeniak in the U.S. Congress, highlighting her leadership, humanitarian work and advocacy for Ukraine. The speech was officially entered into the Congressional Record, the permanent historical archive of the House of Representatives.

On April 23, during a ceremony in her district, Congresswoman Ramirez presented the UCCA President with an "Award of Recognition," recognizing her as one of the most prominent civic leaders in the district.

The award was a symbol of deep respect for her many years of work in defense of democracy, human rights, and support for the Ukrainian people during the war.

"As a family physician, Dr. Dmytryv-Kapeniak is an example of how a profession can be transformed into a service to humanity... Her efforts have resulted in donations and humanitarian aid to save lives in Ukraine," the congresswoman said in her citation.

In addition to leading the UCCA, Maria Dmytryv-Kapeniak is an active member of the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA), a volunteer and inspiration for many humanitarian initiatives. Her work has long gone beyond the local community to become a voice for Ukrainians on a national level in the United States.
