The documentary filmmaker, writer, and volunteer spoke to the Ukrainian community in Seattle. Attendees listened to stories about war, humanity, and faith in Ukraine's victory. The funds raised will support the army and de-occupied territories.
This information was reported by the Lovage Book Club and the Ukrainian Association of Washington State.
A creative charity meeting with Gorovyi took place in Seattle. The event was part of his “Talking About War” tour, which covers Ukrainian communities abroad and raises funds to support de-occupied territories and Ukrainian defenders.
During the meeting, Gorovyi read his insightful and emotional stories and poems about war, loss, strength, and resilience, which contained humor and pain. The audience heard literary texts and life stories from frontline territories that the author witnessed firsthand.
"Every trip is an opportunity to be useful," said Gorovyi, discussing the reconstruction of houses in liberated cities, the purchase of firewood and books for local libraries, and the provision of equipment to the army.
A special topic of the evening was his work on the “Child Search Service” project. After the full-scale invasion, the number of requests increased a thousandfold, yet the author continues to search for missing children and help families find their loved ones.
In addition to being creative, the event had a charitable purpose. All funds raised from book sales, auctions, and donations will go toward rebuilding homes in occupied territories and toward purchasing firewood, equipment, and supplies for the Ukrainian military.
"Thank you, Seattle! It was very warm and sincere! We raised money to support the deoccupied territories and the army. Let's move on," the author wrote after the meeting.
The Lovage Book Club and the Ukrainian Association of Washington State organized the event. According to the organizers, this meeting served as a means to support Ukraine and provided inspiration and emotional support to the local community.
"We thank Ruslan Gorovoy for tirelessly writing books and sharing stories from Ukraine. He is helping our army and internally displaced persons. Every time you come to Seattle, you recharge us until the next meeting. Your stories resonate deeply and leave no one indifferent. We believe in Ukraine's victory!" they said, sharing their impressions of the meeting at the Ukrainian Association of Washington State.
The next meeting with Ruslan Gorovoy is scheduled for May 30 in Minneapolis.
