The class was held in the town of Sanoyta. Combining cultural education with charity, the event raised $3,000 for victims of the war in Ukraine.
This was reported by Cactus and Tryzub.
The event took place among the picturesque vineyards of Sanoyta, a well-known wine region in Arizona. It was organized by the Ukrainian-American Society of Arizona and local bluegrass musician Jim Kovik. Participants learned the art of pysanky, which involves decorating eggs with wax using the batik technique. This ancient practice is an integral part of Ukrainian culture.
Both Ukrainians and Americans learned how to create traditional pysanky under the guidance of Igor Kunash, Rebecca Lennon, and Jim Kovik. Each participant received a special set of materials and instructions to create their own unique pysanka to take home as a souvenir.
The charitable event raised funds for Razom for Ukraine, a charity that helps victims of the war in Ukraine.
The master class was an opportunity to experience Ukrainian culture and show solidarity with the Ukrainian people during the war.
"In these difficult times, connecting with Ukrainian culture is particularly important. Thanks to such master classes, the community comes together to support Ukraine. Through these initiatives, we contribute to humanitarian aid and support victims of Russia's terrible war crimes,” the organizers noted.
