A patriotic race under the flags of Ukraine took place in one of the greenest parks in Utah – Liberty Park in Salt Lake City. About 20 Ukrainians who currently live in the USA took part in the event, organized by the Utah Ukrainian Association and ultramarathoner Mykola Taran.
“The main goal is to unite Ukrainians in America. In total, there were about 20 of us Ukrainians, all from different cities of Ukraine who have lived here for a long time or recently. Everyone who wanted to had the opportunity to join. There were both adults and children,” the organizers of the event told Vilni Media.
The race took place without age categories or restrictions, and the start and finish were in Liberty Park, where many Ukrainian holidays are traditionally held. Before the start, the participants sang the National Anthem of Ukraine, announced the goal of the event and the rules of the race. Despite the forecast of rain, the weather was sunny and conducive to the event.
“It was nice to see the participants holding the flags of Ukraine, running together, supporting each other. It was a race without prizes, but with a big soul,” Taran noted.
The organizers of the race were Utah Ukrainian Associationwhich unites the Ukrainian community of Utah to support Ukraine and help newcomers adapt to life in the United States, as well as Mykola Taran, an ultramarathon runner, 4-time Ukrainian record holder in ultramarathon running.
“First of all, I am grateful to those Ukrainians who came and joined us. And by the way, they are very friendly here and donate for Ukraine’s victory. Once again, I was convinced that despite the distance, it is possible to help and support Ukraine from abroad,” he concluded.
