The past few days have been marked by a series of important diplomatic statements regarding the war in Ukraine. Trump declared his belief in Kyiv’s victory and called on NATO to act more firmly in response to Russian provocations. Meanwhile, Zelensky described his meeting with the American leader as “very constructive,” while the Kremlin rejected all of Washington’s claims, trying to convince them of the stability of its own economy and strategy.
Zelensky on the meeting with Trump: a very good and constructive conversation
President of Ukraine Volodymyr ZelenskyPresident of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky saidafter his meeting with Donald Trump in New York that the conversation was very good and constructive. He said that the main topics were the situation on the front, in particular the counteroffensive of Ukrainian forces in the Donetsk region, as well as the state of the Russian economy.
Zelensky stressed that he would not disclose the details of the negotiations, but described them as useful and productive. He emphasized that he discussed with the American leader key issues of the war and the possibility of further support for Ukraine. The president also noted the importance of Trump’s assessment of economic pressure on Russia.
Rubio on possible sanctions against Russia: Trump’s patience is not unlimited
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during a meeting of the UN Security Council, labeled Russia’s war against Ukraine one of the most difficult challenges for international security. He said that President Donald Trump has made significant efforts to find a peaceful settlement, avoiding the introduction of new sanctions in the hope of a diplomatic breakthrough. At the same time, Rubio stressed that the war cannot end militarily and will sooner or later end at the negotiating table.
According to him, the current situation shows signs of escalation — in particular, an increase in the number of strikes and violations of the airspace of neighboring countries by Russian drones and aircraft. Rubio emphasized that Trump’s patience is not unlimited, and Washington has options for increasing economic pressure on Moscow. He also noted that the United States is ready to provide both defensive and offensive weapons to help Ukraine defend itself. The Secretary of State called on UN member states to do more to stop the war.
Trump said that Ukraine can return all lost territories
US President Donald Trump has expressed about the confidence that Ukraine is able to return all the territories seized by Russia since 2022. In his post on Truth Social after a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky, he said that Russia is in “great economic difficulty”, and the support of the EU and NATO opens up opportunities for Kyiv to regain control over all its territory.
Trump stressed that the protracted war has turned Russia into a “paper tiger”, as the army has not been able to achieve rapid success. He stressed that now is the time for active action by Ukraine, as the Kremlin’s economic problems are deepening. The American president also promised to supply weapons to NATO, which the allies will be able to use at their own discretion. Zelensky called this position a “major shift” and said that Trump could influence China’s position.
The Kremlin rejected Trump’s statements about the war in Ukraine
Moscow reacted to the statements of US President Donald Trump, who suggested that Ukraine could return all the lost territories. Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia’s economy is “stable” and the military actions are taking place according to a “thought-out strategy”, where Kyiv is in a difficult situation.
The Russian side criticized Trump’s words about the “paper tiger”, arguing that such assessments do not correspond to reality. Peskov also reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov plans to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to provide “real information” about the situation on the front. At the same time, critical reactions have appeared in Russia — from accusations of Trump in “changing positions” to ironic comments in state media.
Trump calls on NATO countries to shoot down Russian planes violating airspace
US President Donald Trump saidthat NATO members should shoot down Russian planes if they invade the alliance's airspace. At the same time, he avoided a direct answer as to whether the United States would do so, noting that everything would depend on the specific circumstances.
His statement came amid rising tensions after Russian fighter jets violated the borders of Estonia and regular incidents with drones in Poland. Trump emphasized the "strength of the United States within NATO" and at the same time remained uncertain about Washington's further steps. Previously, he has repeatedly set deadlines for making decisions on sanctions against Russia, emphasizing the need to stop the escalation. Zelensky thanked the American president for his personal efforts and supported the call for European countries to stop purchasing Russian oil.
