Ukraine and the United States are deepening cooperation. Thus, a number of meetings of the Ukrainian delegation with high-ranking officials, congressmen and leading American experts and business were held in Washington. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen Ukraine's energy sustainability and expand cooperation with American partners.
This was reported by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
Thus, at the American Enterprise Institute, in particular, a meeting was held with leading American experts to discuss ways to restore and modernize Ukraine's energy system. The topic was the formation of a new energy architecture - decentralized, flexible and resistant to physical and cyber threats. Among the key areas are the development of distributed generation, the implementation of smart grids, energy storage, the integration of renewable sources and the diversification of supply.
“Today, Ukraine is building a new energy architecture – decentralized, flexible and resilient to physical and cyber threats. The development of distributed generation, the implementation of smart grids, energy storage, the integration of renewable sources and the diversification of energy supply have become key tools for our energy security,” said the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
Later, on Capitol Hill, the co-chairs of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus – Marcy Kaptur, Brian Fitzpatrick and Mike Quigley, as well as Gary Palmer and Lisa Murkowski – also held talks with the Ukrainian side. Ukraine emphasized the need to maintain bipartisan support for Ukraine and sanctions pressure on Russia, as well as the importance of American business participation in Ukraine’s recovery after a difficult winter.
In Washington, the delegation was welcomed by the Ukrainian community at Ukraine House. During the meeting, the community heard firsthand how Ukraine was going through one of the most difficult winter periods, when massive Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure left hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians without heat and electricity.
“I thank the Ukrainian community for making Ukraine’s voice heard loudly in the United States, for the support and assistance you provide to our soldiers and every Ukrainian,” Shmyhal said in his speech.
During the visit, the Ukrainian delegation also held a number of meetings with representatives of American business. In particular, joint projects in the nuclear sector, LNG supply, oil and gas production, the development of renewable energy, and infrastructure modernization were discussed.
Together with Westinghouse Electric Company, Ukraine completely replaced Russian nuclear fuel with American fuel. The parties discussed the development of joint projects, including the supply of reactors, long-term heat removal systems, the construction of new power units and the localization of the production of fuel assembly components in Ukraine.
Negotiations were also held with Cheniere Energy on the supply of liquefied natural gas and opportunities for expanding cooperation. Cooperation with GE Vernova in the field of transformers, substation equipment, gas turbines and network stabilization solutions was discussed, as well as with Invenergy on the development of renewable energy sources.
It is worth noting that during the visit, Ukraine managed to reach a number of significant agreements. Thus, the Ministry of Energy concluded an agreement on the distribution of hydrocarbons with Aspect Holdings. Naftogaz of Ukraine, a national company that carries out a full cycle of work on the exploration and development of gas fields, as well as gas production in Ukraine, signed a memorandum with Solar Turbines on the development of service and training of specialists, as well as a memorandum with Baker Hughes on increasing the efficiency of gas turbines and production. A memorandum has been signed with the American Petroleum Institute on the exchange of standards, technologies and industry practices.
