The exhibition features 14 stories of children aged 8 to 17 who survived the occupation, shelling and loss of loved ones in Mariupol, Irpin, Kharkiv and other cities. The exhibition includes children's diaries, drawings and personal belongings documenting their experiences during the Russian aggression.
"In Washington, during the War Diaries, we not only showed 14 stories of the horrors of war through children's eyes, but also showed our guests video and photographic evidence of the aftermath of the shelling of Okhmatdyt. 6-year-old Alisa Kulzhynska from Kherson also told her story to the guests. In December 2023, her house was hit by a Russian missile. She lost an eye and suffered injuries to her skull, neck and ear. At first she was treated in Kyiv's Okhmatdyt and later moved to the United States for treatment", said Khrystyna Khranovska, the author of the project and a public figure.
The exhibition was organised by the Weatherman Foundation and brought to Washington, DC.
As part of the event, guests were given a copy of Living the War, a book about the impact of war on children's lives. The book includes stories of Ukrainian children.
