Students of the Ukrainian School DC Visit the Ukrainian Museum in New York

On the eve of Christmas, the 10th grade students of the Ukrainian School DC traveled to the Ukrainian Museum in New York. As part of the Ukrainian School's curriculum, the students learned about the works of Ukrainian artist Oleksandra Exter and other avant-garde artists, and had an unforgettable cultural experience in New York.

This was reported by Ukrainian School DC.

"The idea of a long trip has been in the works since the beginning of the school year. But there was nothing special for us that would fit into the context of our curriculum. And so we were studying the section on the "Renaissance in Action" when we learned that the Ukrainian Museum in New York had received works by Oleksandra Ekster and other Futurist and Modernist artists from Ukrainian museums. The puzzle was complete. We were eager to see it," says 10th grade teacher Tetiana Yurkevych.

At the museum, the students were greeted by educational curator Kalyna Cholgan Boychuk, who led an informative tour. She spoke about the influence of Oleksandra Ekster on her contemporaries and presented works by such famous artists as David Burliuk, Oleksandr Bohomazov, Maria Sinyakova, and the avant-garde artist Kazimir Malevich.

The trip also included a walk to the Central Christmas Tree near Rockefeller Center and a visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral. The monumentality of the cathedral and its neo-Gothic style made a deep impression on the students, enhanced by the pre-Christmas atmosphere.

According to the school administration, the trip was of great educational and cultural importance. The students deepened their knowledge of the works of Ukrainian artists, strengthened their collective spirit and gained a sense of belonging to Ukrainian culture and history.
