In North Port, Florida, in front of the city hall, the first Southwest Florida Ukrainian Festival, "With Ukraine in the Heart," took place. The event gathered over 2,500 guests who had the opportunity to learn more about Ukrainian traditions, culture, and art, as well as support humanitarian initiatives for Ukraine.
This was reported by Ukrainian festival SWFL.
The festival was organized by Yulia and Serhiy Danylovets, together with the Ukrainian Festival SWFL team. Their goal was not only to promote Ukrainian culture among Americans but also to raise funds to support a military hospital in Kyiv, an orphanage in Novovolynsk, and medical evacuations in Pokrovsk.
Numerous tents were set up at the festival, offering traditional Ukrainian embroidered clothing, unique jewelry, and souvenirs. One of the highlights was an exhibition by master potter Valentyn Drobakha, who not only showcased his works but also allowed visitors to try their hand at pottery.
"At our festival, guests could discover the unique works of master potter Valentyn Drobakha. Visitors had the chance to purchase ceramic items and even try creating something from clay themselves. It was a fantastic opportunity to immerse in Ukrainian culture and experience the joy of creativity," the organizers noted.
A separate highlight was a collection of modern clothing featuring Ukrainian ornaments, presented by Maryna Savazh. Guests could also purchase exquisite coral jewelry and unique handmade Ukrainian wreaths.
The festival delighted guests with authentic Ukrainian cuisine and homemade pastries. A special play area was set up for children, where they learned to paint Easter eggs, make varenyky, and create artistic drawings.
Musical performances added to the festive atmosphere. The stage featured folk, religious, and contemporary Ukrainian songs performed by local artists and invited guests. A particularly moving performance came from the children's choir "Svitank Florida," conducted by maestro Oleh Maiovskyi.
The festival began with a prayer for Ukraine, followed by host Nick Vykhopen expressing gratitude to the event sponsors, without whom this celebration would not have been possible.
An important part of the festival was a charity auction, with all proceeds directed toward humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Among the most valuable auction items were boxing gloves signed by Oleksandr Usyk and Vitali Klitschko, a scarf autographed by Valerii Zaluzhnyi, and Ukrainian military decorations.
The "With Ukraine in the Heart" festival was not only a celebration of Ukrainian culture but also a significant charitable initiative. The organizers hope to make it an annual event to continue supporting Ukraine and promoting its culture in the United States.
