Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized that the United States supports the victims of enforced disappearance and called for an end to these crimes, as well as the return of the victims to their families.
Blinken noted that enforced disappearance is a gross violation of human rights that causes great suffering to families who do not know where their loved ones are or if they are alive. He drew attention to the fact that members of religious and ethnic minorities, lawyers and activists often become victims of such crimes.
The US also called on the governments of all countries to put an end to this practice and bring the perpetrators to justice.
