Flag-raising ceremonies were held in Calgary and Edmonton on the occasion of Ukrainian Canadian Heritage Day. During the ceremony, the Ukrainian flag was raised next to the Canadian flag, emphasising the importance of cultural ties between Ukraine and Canada. This day marked the 133rd anniversary of Ukrainian immigration to Canada and honoured the significant contribution of Ukrainian Canadians to the development of Alberta and the country as a whole.
This was reported by Ukrainian World Congress.
The event honored the courage and resilience of Ukrainian immigrants who have contributed to various spheres of Canadian life. Today, more than 365,000 Albertans with Ukrainian roots actively contribute to the multicultural heritage of the region.
During the event, words of support for Ukraine were expressed, especially after the recent bombings in Lviv and Poltava. The raising of the flag became a symbol of solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their struggle for freedom.

Special thanks were extended to the Honorable Jackie Armstrong Gomeniuk, Parliamentary Secretary of Settlement and Evacuated Ukrainians, and Volodymyr Volkodav, representing the Consul General of Ukraine in Edmonton. Members of the Legislative Assembly and community members who supported the event were also honored.

The Ukrainian World Congress also joined in the celebration, noting that Canada is a close country to Ukraine, where Ukrainians have been preserving and promoting their traditions for over a century. Currently, more than 1.4 million Ukrainians live in Canada and their contribution to the country is irreplaceable. In particular, the significant achievements of Ukrainians such as Sylvia Fedoruk, Roman Hnatyshyn, William Kurelek, Albert Bandura, Wayne Gretsky, Pylyp Konoval, and Chrystia Freeland were noted.
This day became an important event to celebrate and preserve the Ukrainian-Canadian heritage, demonstrating the unity and stability of the communities of both countries.
