Bloor West Village: Toronto hosts largest Ukrainian festival

The 28th annual Bloor West Village, the largest Ukrainian street festival in North America, took place in Toronto. The Ukrainian festival attracted thousands of visitors. Attendees enjoyed performances by some 60 artists, bands and dance groups, including Ukrainian performers Cheremosh, Patsyky z Franeka and the Royal Regiment of Canada Band. The event also included a large traditional street parade.

This was reported by Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Toronto Branch.

"The energetic Ukrainian spirit was truly alive with amazing artisans, talented performers and the joy of meeting old and new friends. After what we experienced, we are more confident than ever that the Ukrainian spirit is unbreakable. Ukrainians are resilient, and together we will overcome the evil that has invaded our homeland", the congress concluded.

The three-day event became the most anticipated event in Toronto, both live and streamed online for those unable to attend. The organizers prepared an intense concert. In total, about 60 artists, singers, bands and ensembles performed at the festival. Traditionally, the festival began with a solemn one-hour parade through the streets of Toronto, which thousands of people attend every year. The festival itself took place in the lively area between Jane Street and Glendonwynne Road.

The Ukrainian dance troupe "Cheremosh" impressed everyone with their breathtaking choreography, impressive costumes and dynamic music. Gerdan Theater, a folk singing group from Chernivtsi, thrilled the audience with their authentic Ukrainian music. Their arrangements of traditional folk songs include old melodies from villages all over Ukraine. Ukrainian folk songs in their own arrangements and original compositions were also performed by the Ukrainian-Polish musical group "Ukrainian Folk". And what is the event without violin master Vasyl Popadyuk? And this time he impressed the audience with his virtuoso performance. The Chicago-based dance ensemble Gromovytsia, consisting of 50 dancers, also impressed the audience. The Royal Regiment of Canada Band, based at Fort York in Toronto, also came to the event. The Barvinok ensemble performed a fascinating hopak. The headliner of the festival was a dynamic performance by the Ukrainian band Patsyki Z Franeka.

Everyone could write a postcard to the Ukrainian military with words of support. They could also visit the Corner Pavilion where the non-profit organization producing FPV drones "Wild Hornets" spoke on the topic "Modern War in the Defense of Ukraine: FPV Drones" and international documentary filmmaker and journalist Marcus Kolga with his presentation "Russia's Information Warfare Against Ukraine and the Western World". Or visit the photo exhibition "Dawn" dedicated to the children of war in Ukraine.
